Farmer Copley's Tractor Road Run with a Toddler

It was by chance we came across the 'Priory Rose Vintage Group' Charity Tractor Road Run, but it was another great discovery by Mrs M.

Details were sketchy, but we knew from the Facebook Group that as many as 100 tractors would be stopping at Farmer Copley's in Pontefract at around 10.30am, with a possible visit from the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

The tractors visited other locations, including Nostell Priory, Wintersett Lakes Caravan Park and The White Horse Pub on their journey around Featherstone, Pontefract and Walton.

We have been to Farmer Copley's for the annual Pumpkin Festival a few times, so knew what facilities were available - with the brand new Baby A in tow, it was good to have an indoor space with food and changing facilities.

When we arrived, we quickly found a parking spot and then joined the crowds in anticipation of the tractors’ arrival. It quickly became apparent that it was busier than expected. Mrs M overheard a few of the organisers discussing what on earth they were going to do with so many spectators and tractors...

Over 160 tractors joined the event. I think Little M may have waved at every single one as they drove into the farm. A mix of vintage, traditional and wifi enabled, super computer tractors were all on show and once parked made an incredibly impressive view.

Just before we fully appreciated the number of tractors, the instantly recognisable Yorkshire Air Ambulance began circling overhead before landing in the field in front of the tractors. Little M and Mrs M made a dash to see it, and following a short queue, were treated to a group visit to get close and sit on the emergency vehicle.

It was one of those moments we know Little M will remember for a long time. That was what made the morning so special. It isn't every day, you see 160 different tractors in a field, a helicopter land next to them and then get to sit on them all! It was a unique and memorable experience for all of us.

The weather obviously played a part in helping create a positive family atmosphere - but it was the cause itself. Everyone was there to lend their support, raising funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

These are the family days out that really stand out for me. They are educational, unusual and have a positive message that children can understand. We had a brilliant morning at Farmer Copley's, and it looks like the tractor road run was a huge success as it then travelled around West Yorkshire.
