Whats on in March
The nights are getting brighter and as we head towards easter, we take a look at several key events to watch out for in March.
It is a great time of the year to visit local farms with plenty of lambs, calves and chicks to meet. Cannon “Hall Farm has lambing live and whilst, we haven`t been for a long time, Swithens Farm always had lots of lambs for us to feed.

Week 1 (3rd – 4th) March
The Hepworth Print Fair
The Hepworth | Wakefield | 2nd – 4th March | Website
The Hepworth Wakefield’s popular Print Fair returns in 2018 with a host of exciting stalls, activities and events celebrating the art of printmaking.
Held in The Calder, our converted mill space, and featuring a handpicked selection of over 50 printmakers, collectives and galleries from around the UK, the fair will provide a friendly atmosphere in which to find work by artists, illustrators and designers working in print.
Week 2 (10th-11th March)
Mothers Day at Piglets

2018 Spring Gala

Join us for our big, noisy, three day festival of steam. Whether you’re a railway enthusiast or just looking for something a bit different to do – you’re sure to have a memorable day out with many locomotives in steam and operating at various times throughout the day.
Morgan & West: More Magic for Kids

Time-travelling magicians Morgan & West return to the stage with a marvellous magic show full of crazy capers for the young, old, and everyone in-between! Expect the unexpected, believe the unbelievable, but do not dare miss the unmissable Morgan & West!

North York Moors | Yorkshire Dales | 3rd – 11th March | Website
Legendary locomotive, 60163 Tornado, will storm in the the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in March of 2018. This stunning Peppercorn A1 Pacific class engine has been on a whirlwind of tours since she began moving under her own steam in 2008 and this year talent spotting teams were quick to select her to be used in the latest film about a friendly bear from deepest darkest Peru, ‘Paddington Bear 2’! You too can now travel on return journey from Grosmont to Pickering and back behind this 100mph locomotive, all be it at a much more sedate speed, through the stunning North York Moors National Park. This is a pre-booked event.
Week 3 (17th – 18th March)

Our ever-popular Falconry Weekends will see farm visitors be able to get up close and personal with these magnificent creatures. Over the weekend there will be flying displays and handling sessions where you will be able to hold and take your own photographs of yourselves with our special guests.
The Tinker Project: Family Sculpture Workshop
Yorkshire Sculpture Park | Near Wakefield | 18th March | Website
Visit Yorkshire Sculpture Park for their playful workshop where you will tinker and transform everyday objects into new and exciting sculptures.
What will you take apart? A toaster, a speaker or maybe even a vacuum cleaner. Led by artists Natalie Bellingham and Gonçalo Birra, you will find out what’s inside everyday household objects and remake them into something new. Allow your imagination to run away with you!
Week 4 (24th-25th March)
Shark Egg Case Hunt
Fraisthorpe Beach | East Yorks | 24th March | Website
Join us at Fraisthorpe beach for our first Egg Case Hunt of the year! Taking place along the East Coast, these free events are being delivered in partnership with the Shark Trust and the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust in a bid to involve local people in shark conservation.
Ideal for children aged 3 upwards, you can support marine life whilst enjoying a great day out. All participants are asked to wear suitable and sturdy footwear, wellies would be ideal!
Leeds Knight Time
Royal Armouries | Leeds | 24th – 25th March | Website
Come and meet the Royal Armouries’ team of knights who will be competing in the Easter Tournament. In these fun-filled interactive sessions children will get the chance meet our knights and their horses and find out what it takes to be a tournament champion.
There’ll be the chance to take a closer look at their armour and weapons, have a go at some crafts, then we’ll go outside to the stables to meet the horses and then into the tiltyard to watch our knights go through their tournament training, including jousting.
