Easter Family Fun

National Railway Museum | York | 24th March – 15th April | Website

Join us throughout the Easter season for an unforgettable family adventure, when you’ll be able to:

Team up as a family and challenge each other with our new app, Treasure Hunters. Create a unique tour of the museum that changes every time you play. Take a ride behind a steam locomotive—steam rides run daily throughout the Easter season (24 March – 8 April and 14–15 April). Experience science shows, storytelling and winding engine demonstrations which will bring engineering alive for visitors of all ages.

From 30 March to 8 April we’ll also be engineering some extra-special activities for you to team up as a family and get hands-on:

Craft your own Flying Scotsman model to reveal the inner workings of a steam locomotive. Discover the story of early rail innovators in our new Stephenson’s Rocket workshop. Take a giant leap through history to hear about the futuristic innovations behind the famous Japanese Bullet Train in our daily Shinkansen Talks. We’ll also reveal the inner workings of a steam locomotive in our daily demonstrations.

Steampunk Science

Join us for a madcap, zigzag journey through the amazing world of science and technology this Easter holiday. Meet our Steampunk Scientists, who will blow your mind with their theatrical science demonstrations going on throughout the museum every day. Don’t miss our interactive science show – The Secret World of Gases featuring the coolest gas of them all; LIQUID NITROGEN. This is a brand new show that we’ve developed with top brains. And on selected days we’ll be joined by some very special guests…

Mad About Madagascar

Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife & Falconry Centre | Sheffield | 24th March – 15th April | Website

This Easter take a trip to the Tropical Butterfly House’s Mad About Madagascar event. With daily animal encounters including meet the Easter bunnies and chicks, free tractor trailer rides, and Madagascar-themed crafts and activities, there’s sure to be something for everyone!

Easter Eggsplorers Egg Hunt

Stockeld Park | Wetherby | 28th March – 16 April | Website

Find our Eggsplorer Eggs around the Park using your Stockeld map.

The decorated Eggs are hidden in the forest and all of them are in the form of a famous explorer from the past. Grab your Easter leaflet from our ticket office on the day and, much like the great explorers in history, record your discoveries on the map. If you can find them all you could be in with the chance to win an Easter goodie bag for yourself!

Once complete, post your maps into the big red post box in our Shop for a chance to win a Stockeld Park goodie bag! Every competed form wins a little egg treat!

Design, Make and Decorate Chippendale

Harewood House | Leeds | 30th March – 15th April | Website

Our Chippendale inspired craft activities are running daily throughout the Easter holidays. Get crafty with our mirror making activity, and learn all about marquetry with our puzzling patterns. There is no need to book. This activity is run on a drop-in basis for families, between 11am and 3pm daily.

Easter at the Railway

Week 1 (2nd April)

A Cracking Chocolate Adventure

York’s Chocolate Story | York | 30th March – 7th April | Website

Taking place in the beautiful surroundings of the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall, children will join Gr-egg and Yolko as they try to fix Gr-egg’s big mistake; losing all of the Easter Eggs!

The adventure starts at York’s Chocolate Story daily at 11.30am and 2pm on 30th March – 7th April and will make its way to the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall.

This is a stand-alone event especially created and run by the attractions award winning team. Led by costumed characters and starting outside the attraction in King’s Square, before moving to the beautiful surroundings of the Merchant Adventurers Hall; the event will take place entirely outside, so clothing suitable to the weather is strongly recommended. Perfect for children aged 4-8.

York Model Railway Show

York Racecourse | York | 31st March – 2nd April | Website

Held in the luxury of the Knavesmire Stand at York Racecourse the York Model Railway Show has become one of the premier events in the model railway calendar. On display will be approx. 40 layouts with a further 50 trade stands from around the country as well as Society scale stands and Preservation groups totaling over 120 stands in all.

Magna Mayhem

Magna Science Adventure Centre | Rotherham | 5th – 8th April | Website

Magna Mayhem is back for FOUR DAYS ONLY this Easter from Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th April. All the same bouncing, jumping and sliding fun with a few ‘egg-stra’ special treats!

Kids can bounce, boing, jump, slide, bop and boogie for a full 75 mins of high adrenaline fun. Our purpose built indoor world of adventure is a safe environment for children of all ages to let off steam and be active during the school holidays.

Alice in Wonderland Easter Adventure

Something special is going on at Yorkshire Wildlife Park this Easter.

From April 6th – 8th, our Alice in Wilderland Easter Adventure is celebrating Lewis Carroll’s timeless tales Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass.

Get set for three magical days of live shows, craft activities, games and more featuring much-loved characters such as the March Hare and the Queen of Hearts.

Wars of the Roses Weekend

Royal Armouries | Leeds | 7th – 8th April | Website

This weekend Royal Armouries Museum’s outdoor arena will become a ‘living museum’ and battlefield as they decipher the history of this conflict.

Explore a late 15th-century military encampment on the eve of battle. Wander among the tents as skilled artisans demonstrate a range of medieval crafts, including fletching, bow-making and metal forging. There will also be displays of the popular medieval sport of falconry (11am & 2pm). Twice a day (12.30pm & 3pm), the arena will be transformed into a battlefield for a re-enactment of the Battle of Towton (29 March 1461), one of the bloodiest battle ever fought on English soil.

In the museum there will be a range of themed talks, combat demonstrations, opportunities to handle objects plus have-a-go archery and swordplay sessions.

Week 3 (16th April)

St. George’s Day at Pontefract Castle

Pontefract Castle | Pontefract | 21st – 22nd April | Website

Join in the national St George’s Day celebrations at Pontefract Castle on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 April. Watch the mighty St George charge in on his trusty steed to slay the dragon, watch some traditional crafts and have a go at some yourself.

Wizard of Oz Panto

Click your ruby heels together and join Cannon Hall Farm over the rainbow for a magical adventure suitable for all ages…

Follow Dorothy and her new friends along the yellow brick road as they help the wonderful Wizard of Oz defeat the Wicked Witch of the West.

Panto tickets will include full-day access to Cannon Hall Farm for a truly packed day out. Your seats must be prebooked as they have a limited number available per session. The show times are 11am, 1pm and 3.30pm on April 21 and 22.

Dinosaurs Visit Thornton Hall Farm
